Java the cat, and the tie #1
January 30, 2011

And today we played with the tie and got a set of “Java the cat, and the tie” pictures…
P.S. I didn’t strangle the cat, I left the tie wide enough that she could have taken it off by herself.

I know, most of you won’t care about the following words (:P) therefore, if you want to just know where I took this picture, just click on the link in the last lines of this post
A cramp at 6pm today turned my leg into a “painful appendix” of my body.
This kind of cramps already happened, I know the possible causes and I’m sure pain will be gone in a day or two.
It’s nothing of terrible but it’s really annoying since even lying in bed isn’t comfortable.
In the evening I was aware that this leg wouldn’t let me sleep, indeed at 2.30 am I was still awake in bed.
Being still awake made me so nervous that I focused all my thoughts on my pain, and as you can understand, it isn’t a good thing.I needed a solution.
Reading a book?
Didn’t work.
Listening to music?
Italians say “idem with potatoes”
(And this makes me thinking if Italians thinks about food and cooking every moments of their life).
While I was trying to figure out what to do, it came to my mind that there was an unpublished (and unedited) picture I had taken at the Meeting of Rimini 2010.
(It’s not a totally crazy thought, in these days I had serveral reasons to think about the Meeting of Rimini, about photography and a bunch of thing that can be realted to this picture…).
Then, I decided that sitting wouldn’t have been worse than lying, therefore I got up, sit on my chair and looked for that picture in my back up HD and, as you can see from this post, here it is.
I can’t recall, at the moment, what exactly is. I’m sure it was part of the exhibition about Stephen of Hungary. I remember that taking it hadn’t been easy, but I’m sure that while taking this pictures I realized something that might happen next August.
Pain is still bothering me, but now it feels much more tolerable.
I let you figure out the reason.
Therefore, I’m going back to bed in the hope to get some rest.
I don’t know well the reason but this shot makes me smiling.
Probably because it makes me thinking of a crazy commercial picture.

I know I could have done a couple of things to take a better shot!
I might have taken the picture more centered on the “candelora”, but how missing the woman at the window?
I should have gone downstairs to take pictures, but how could have I get from there the perspective of “common people at home” that like had the afternoon brighten up by such a gesture of religious devotion? Ok, it’s not the most pious manifestation of devotion (you should have listened to the “curious” music they were playing) but still, it’s a good aspect of the life here in Catania.
And probably I could have done a better work on to get a picture with both the aspects of the “common people at home perspective” and the “woman at the window”, but that’s what I got today… the story looks told anyway ^_^
P.S. I admit, I didn’t want to take care of Saint Agata festivity this year (that means:I didn’t want to go out taking pictures of the festivity)… as you can see my blog fell into a silent period because I want seriously to pass a couple of exams in the following 6 weeks.
Of course, this year, for the first time since I have memory, a candelora passed on the street where I live. Curious coincidence that is making me thinking a lot.
P.P.S. In the following days I might post a few other shots taken this afternoon…. I am still thinking if it’s a good idea or not.
In the morning I went to the university, listened to a 2 hours long lectures, got back home to have lunch.
In the afertnoon I and the webmaster have been to Merins’s home to take pictures the various Christmas cribs she places all around her house at Christmas time (and kept out for me to take pictures)…
Actually it is since Christmas 2008 that she tried to invite me to take these.
I’m a little disappointed of the poor work I did in some pictures, even in the one I’m showing here too…

but I hope that tomorrow I can get a few good shots to give to Merins, and learn how to get a better result the next time I try taking pictures like these…
At the moment there is one sure good thing: Merins is giving me a lot of challenging tasks, despite I’m sure Merins doesn’t want to test my skills in photography, I have to double thank her for her “pictures request”

The new gallery is online, if it was a scientific article I would say “the abstract” is in English and the article (pictures description) is in Italian.
You can find the gallery in the list on the left (search “EthnoVoice* in the “People” list)… or just click on the following link to the EthnoVoice gallery
Wondering about “who was singing?” Merins and a bunch of friends that form the Ethnovoice group.
I went to their the show to listen to nice music (and voices) and to take pictures, of course!
Actually, I’ve been able to take pictures even before the show while they were doing the last tests on instruments and voices.
Another friends (pupanna) was taking pictures too, as well as Merins’ younger kid and her middle kid was taking a video:

A little great work that can really make you feel great, indeed, despite at the moment I’ve an huge headache and 230 other pictures to be selected and “edited”, I’m really glad to be here.
To be continued,
that means, pictures coming in the following days.
*Actually they didn’t sung only sicilian songs.

Work is over, everything went (except a little note on the printing, they turned the colors much darker and wasted a little the effect of those) and now we can go ahead in this year.
