Yeah, I’m a Facebook user too… it’s not a news (started using it back in July 2008)
It’s not even a surprise, I’m an university student, I surf through the web since 1997-1998 and chat since 1999, I enjoy talking with people from all over the world.
Recently they changed the profile layout once more… this is the time of the “timeline”. I don’t really enjoy it but there is an aspect of it that intrigues me: the cover.
At first i didn’t want to fill that field. They force you to keep the covers public, but on my desire of privacy won the idea of sharing through that window some of the Beauty I have seen and “collected” with my pictures
I thought it was nice to write down on my blog which are the Facebook covers I have created so far.
Some has been used in the past, some are being used now, the ones left are future covers I will change when… well, when i desire to ^_^
What about the second?
I’ll talk about it another day.. let’s talk about the third.
After the country house and the apartment in Catania there is a third house that once was my great aunt’s house and now my bro lives in it.
From there you have seen several pictures of Java…but she is not the only cat over there…
On 19th December officially started “my” Christmas vacation.
This means that on 19th December afternoon I have started doing what I had been desiring to do for at least 4 weeks:
just stay with my pictures and imagination!
since it’s the end of the year I opted to go ahead with the calendars project.
On Monday I created a soap-bubble theme calendar for my mother.
This one will hang on a wall in our apartment corridor for the next 12 months.
On Tuesday I created a nature-events theme calendar for the webmaster: For the first time he will hang his calendar in a room in north Italy. Big changes in our life are going to happen in a couple of week, I want to give him something that would make him feel at home even for just a second per day.
On late Tuesday a good man I met on the web asked me a calendar for his granddaughter. He asked me a calendar full of cats
Here it is. Except for the cat on the left bottom corner, that is the grandpa’s cat picture taken with a cellphone the rest all all cats picture I have taken from late Summer 2006 to October 2011.
I tried to use lighter colors since it will go as a present for a 7 year old girl. I hope she’ll enjoy it.
This was actually the most difficult calendar since I have no idea of what a little girl might like (but this is another story…)
Now the last big dilemma is left: WHAT ABOUT MINE CALENDAR?
I know that these calendar are not exactly the most useful thing in the world, but people receiving one of these as present seem to enjoy his/her calendar for the whole year.
Plus: I really love making them because it’s another way to enjoy the process that start with a just-white page and ends with a colorful page.
There are funny status message based “games” that people play on FB, among this there is the one to check on a wikipedia page which was the “number-one hits” the week you were born… I used the US list cause I have no idea where to get the Italian list (actually I don’t even care).
It was funny to see people reaction to this game results: some liked the song, some said “i didn’t know it”, some were happy.
Out of curiosity I checked which was “mine” song and I found that when I was born there was this song:
The U2, I’m not an expert of music but I generally like their songs. I think U2′s music is appreciated by my friends on FB too, some left a comment saying “You are lucky” – if we consider a luck that there was something nice played on radio or whatever when you were born.
I couldn’t avoid smiling at reading the song title and meaning since I use to sign my works writing “ElyLon” that is just a kind of pun with the contract form of my name and first 3 letters of my surname that form the English word “lonely”.
If I were able to sing… I would sing this song not to a person but to Photography… but don’t worry. I won’t sing.
Today I would like to reflect briefly on one of these channels that can lead to God and can also be of help in the encounter with him. It is the way of artistic expression, part of that “via pulchritudinis” — the “way of beauty”, of which I have spoken several times and whose deepest meaning must be recovered by men and women today.
It may have happened on some occasion that you paused before a sculpture, a picture, a few verses of a poem or a piece of music that you found deeply moving, that gave you a sense of joy, a clear perception, that is, that what you beheld was not only matter, a piece of marble or bronze, a painted canvas, a collection of letters or an accumulation of sounds, but something greater, something that “speaks”, that can touch the heart, communicate a message, uplift the mind.
A work of art is a product of the creative capacity of the human being who in questioning visible reality, seeks to discover its deep meaning and to communicate it through the language of forms, colour and sound. Art is able to manifest and make visible the human need to surpass the visible, it expresses the thirst and the quest for the infinite.
Indeed it resembles a door open on to the infinite, on to a beauty and a truth that go beyond the daily routine. And a work of art can open the eyes of the mind and of the heart, impelling us upward.
