One of my favorite redundant day

May 5, 2013

5-5.

Time is running too fast, I’m too late.

Another HDR.

It’s annoying that it’s wind the day you can take pictures to try to “create” HDR pictures of flowers ,but… experiments is all I can do.

Dancer

Dancer

It’s not a dancer.

Apparently it’s not even the correct name of this flower…but it does resembles a dancer, so it’s how we call it (at least at home)

It’s not even a correct picture.

It’s an HDR but not so HDR-looking.

It doesn’t have an uniform background.

It is not a lot of things…

…but…

it makes me thinking of daydreaming.

A dangerous, but sometimes helpful, activity.

A “phonic” picture

May 3, 2013

Weird, this is one of those few years that I remember what happened (to me) …well…now, it’s 14yrs ago.
A car hit me while crossing a street on my way from school to home (I was at the Italian equivalent of the 6th grade).
Nothing happened, nothing more than a few hours of memory black-out and a bit of fear.

I hit my head but I didn’t conk out. I was able to tell who I was, who were my parents and how to reach them, that means I told by voice my mother’s mobile phone number.
That was good because a nice man called my mother, or better, he dialed the number and then gave me his mobile phone so that I could talk directly with my mother…If you consider that in 1999, over here, very few people had a cellphone and calling via cellphone wasn’t cheap…it’s a double nice gesture.
Unfortunately, due to the memory black-out I remember only the sweet and the deep tone of voice of that man. Nothing else.

Here comes the “funny” aspect of the situation: I was 11, able to give useful information but, I have been told that, when mom and doctors tried to make me tell what day was or what had happened at school that day or similar information I yelled with rage “I don’t know! I don’t know!”.

Now we (in family) laugh about the situation and how my “crazy” brain activated a kind of simple emergency mode:
1. recall and tell useful information,
2. remove useless data
3. don’t record any further information
๐Ÿ˜€

Maybe it’s a strange thing to say, but I’m glad I recorded at least the voice of that man.
I guess his kindness activated my “beauty sensor” and despite the situation I recorded that event (like a kind of phonic picture).
Only that tone of voice.
I recall nothing else of those hours.

My brain started to record information again only a few hours later when, already at home, mom gave me one of my favorite ice-cream.

Well, makes sense, I was 11, ice-cream was a very important thing!

A beauty I can’t see

Gardenia

This is a gardenia

I guess it’s among mother’s favorite flowers but I rarely take picture of it…so when Saturday she bought a Gardenia I said nothing but looked at that plant a little “disturbed” until mom said “I know, it doesn’t have colors but it smells good!”.

And yes, it actually has an amazing smell so I’ve been asking myself for a while “How can you reproduce smell on a photograph?”… I understand, this is a question that seems making the same sense of asking “how can you hear a color?”… but, a picture can display a feeling, why not a smell… and I have started wondering if a flower shape is somehow related to its odor.

I didn’t find an answer yet, probably I’ll never find an answer, but well… I guess this can explain an eventual increase of Gardenia pictures for the following days.

Sometimes I steal some minutes of the day to take a look to mt.Etna, especially on Sundays

Yesterday Etna had the kindness to throw a cloud of “sand” during those few minutes I’ve been there taking picture of it.

We’ve the best volcano of the world

Red roses 2013

Me: I need help to take a picture to the red roses

Bro gave no feedback

Dad: Have we red roses?

Mom: I’ll help you

We have been there for a little while, she held the roses oriented toward the sky (because the plant hangs outside the balcony gates) and I took some pictures.

NYC Jan 2013: ice on wood

Noticed, after more than 3 months, that there was ice (or something that really looks like ice) on a tree branch on Hudson river shore… (bottom left corner)
At least, I can’t remember I noticed that ice when I was there
I mean, if I had noticed it I’d have placed that piece of wood and ice as main subjects of the picture.

It might be silly but in Catania I can have water, buildings (even if smaller) and sunset, but no ice in the same scenario (at sea level)

Now I wonder what I have to do:

1. Take more pictures to improve. Most likely, but…

2. Considering that I bought my first DSLR 8 years ago (and that it wasn’t my first camera), maybe it’s time for me to quit “wasting” time with taking pictures.

3. Just laugh for my blindness and for the fact that NYC cold weather, in 8 days, changed my concept of cold.

One thing is sure, I’m going to put this image as desktop picture this summer…
