Friendship and pictures

April 23, 2015

There are several people  I met through photography related activities

Most of them then became friends of mine

With some we talk daily, with others maybe less yet, it’s always a wonder.

A few days ago a friend wrote a post using a poetry and a picture.

The poetry was a Davide Rondoni’s beautiful poetry about love,
the picture looked familiar.

I asked to my friend from where she took the picture. I know she pay attention to mention the author of the images she uses.

She answered she found it on the web but couldn’t remember where.

I laughed and then sent her link to the original source of the picture

coppia

She had no clue it was a picture I took in December 2013.
It’s one of those pictures that belongs of “Me & The Webmaster shadows”
I take to tell in our way the place we visited together

Ok, she found elsewhere on web because some glorious mind took the picture and used without credits, but as my friend pointed out a nice thing, saying something like:

“looks like our friendship keeps going ahead the way it started, due to pictures”

Mt Etna show time

June 16, 2014

Yesterday (June 15th) someone wanted to display some extra beauty

Mt. Etna activity 15-16th June 2014

Picture taken from Catania

I am not sure if I love more the show or the fact that my father came out with me to take pictures and was suggesting shooting settings.

We both acted as we were little kids and as we had never seen Mt. Etna activity before

No deep meaning

A glass of wine - Summer 2008

A glass of wine on the base of an old column
I recall it was taking this picture but now i thought a few of possible sounding-smart but essentially empty meanings I could give to this image.

I love cleaning up my pictures folders

Because even laptops can be artists (!?)

February 13, 2014

Yesterday evening as soon as I click on save button to save a picture

I get this

My computer's art

Despite worries on health status of my laptop

I  loved imagining it wanted to create something new

😀

The “nice” seagull

November 2, 2013

As planned 2 weeks ago, today was the “relax day” before the final sprint. Actually I’m about to get back to my meth-math because I’m too late (as always)

Lucky me today was the second really nice day in a row.
We headed toward Acitrezza, a town on the coast, not far away from Catania.

I found an half-peaceful place where a few seagulls were resting. It was like find a treasure!
I did my best to get as close as possible to them.

I got way more closer than hoped and I started shooting thinking
“wow, I went to Vendicari to take pictures to bird and there were nice ones not far from home. Well, ok, sure is that they are not flamingos”

Soon after…

Seagull - Acitrezza (CT), 2nd November 2013

Oh, yeah

thank you Mr. Seagull

Keeping an eye on reality?

October 19, 2013

Ursino Castle (detail)I’m trying to study for an exam.
Nothing new.

Didn’t leave home since October 4th except to go to the university a couple of time and going to the mass.

Today it was a sunny day, we didn’t make in time to organize a long trip, as well as weather forecast  weren’t encourauging.

It’s Saturday, why not going out?
Plan was to go to a book store and take pictures at Duomo square.

No.
We ended up to Ursino Castle (not that far away)

Not bad. At least I see it at least 30 days every year and I still have no picture of it in my archive.

Problem is: I spent there about 1hr

Why such a long time?
I had decided I wanted to take pictures from different points of view, so I started walking around and when the “trip” was almost over I found the answer to my question: Why camera isn’t allowing me to set short shooting time?

It was super sunny and with an f 2.8 I couldn’t go beyond 1/60, outside, even if with polarizing filter on it’s weird.

I have been shooting for about 30 minutes worrying that camera was about to die. Sure it was a creative way to day for a camera, a kind of depression before definitive blindness of the sensor… when I realized that it was just me… not depressed, but definitely and essentially: DUMB.

I took picture with the polarizing filter and the darkening filter on.

That’s me!
I restarted the little walk around the castle taking pictures only from those spots I liked more and then got back home.

I tend to be a little, just a little, absent minded, but I “swear”, I’m doing my best to keep an eye on reality.

Trying to.

Sssh! I know it’s a “lie”

October 12, 2013

Simeto River, Forre laviche - 29th September 2013

Well… almost a lie.

An HDR picture (or at least, what I tried to get).

For some funny reasons the lava stones in this set of pictures look blue

They weren’t blue!

We (me and the webmaster) have a theory about why I got blue stones as final result but we are not sure about it.
I’m trying to seriously figure out what happened. Who knows, I  might become able to intentionally reproduce this effect in other situation.
At the end, whatever I learn about taking pictures, so far, is the result of experiment and accidental “discoveries”.

Sure, I could have managed to avoid the blue and let stones to their (more or less) original grey… as well as to avoid the golden-yellow of lower stones… but I loved too much the effect!

Seems like a place where to set a fantasy story…or probably I’m reading too much fantasy stuff that I see such places everywhere.

I don’t know.

I just hope you can enjoy the image as well

🙂

NYC Jan2013: People in transit

August 13, 2013

NYC Jan2013:People in transit
These days are again days of attempt to clean up everything in my room, computer and studies

So I had a little time to go ahead  with my work on NYC pictures, even if it’s not over yet.

Today i wanted to post the above picture but I didn’t know what to write so I asked to the webmaster if he has any idea

His answer:
“Staten Island ferry station: people in transit”

How I love physicists and mathematicians: ask them to comment something, they go straight to the definition of that thing.
No useless words or concept, no extra data that allow misunderstanding

NYC Jan 2013: shades of gray

NYC Jan2013: shades of gray

Sorry, I couldn’t resist, but I already explained what people told me about NYC colors and what I found instead
🙂

Being slightly more serious, would be nice to find out the stories of those buildings.
Especially of the building on the left with the yellow parts… I also wonder how people in the city reacted to that.
