Symmetries in town – ©photonmessage.com -
It’s taken with a smartphone (Galaxy Samsung Nexus), but sometimes I get nice results with just that too.
I can’t enjoy Instagram filters (not using any of them) but it’s still a good way to publish a shot quickly.
I keep on thinking “no, I’ll never give up my DSLR”.
As well as I keep wondering if the temptation to over edit the pictures is directly proportional to the lack of “pleasure” for taking a picture with a smartphone…
it’s fun, it can be even pleasant sometime, but not THAT soul-feeding.

It’s good for a photographer, or a pseudo-photographer, to have good-looking friends who don’t mind playing the model role.
Better if they actually enjoy it to the point to suggest possible pictures.
I have to say (or confess?) that the pictures-request-moment is one of those moment when I figure out if someone consider me as a “tool” or as a friend with whom it’s nice to spend time being creative.
It’s even better if these friends are crazy enough to walk through a public park with their great grandmother’s umbrella as it is the most beautiful and old fashionable umbrella in the world.
I’m not a real photographer, they are not real models and nowadays it’s common that young people “pose” for funny pictures. I know this.
But please, see what’s beyond the appearance: the passion that generally was a reason (for me) to be pushed away now it’s just another way to enjoy time with some friends.
Pulzella (the girl on the left) commented the picture saying: Funny, we look like two opposite world. Him is like “I am so beautiful, I can be a photographic model”. She is like “tralalla what a beautiful day it is”.
Just a nice brother and his sister enjoying time with friends.

Life might not be exciting in Catania but if you go to a shopping center on a Saturday afternoon you might get the chance to see this too

that’s why I’m trying to focus on the Beauty of that day (Friday).
I hope it won’t be necessary but, in case the result is bad, I wanted to drop here a note to remind me to
focus on Beauty
April 13, 2013
Today, a couple of friends from USA have made me recalling one of the happiest moments in my life.
The afternoon of Sunday 23rd April 2006.
I was at my senior year in high school.
I spent a good part of that afternoon taking pictures to butterflies in the backyard of family country house.
I had bought (for my 18th birthday) my first DSLR (Olympus E300) 11 months earlier but I was a student with very few (no) friends and I rarely was able to find time to leave home to take pictures.
As a consequence that afternoon was one of those rare occasions during which I was able to play with my camera.
I still have a clear image (in my mind) of my uncle walking toward to where I was,
and I still remember my yell “stand back or butterflies will fly away”.
Butterfly don’t mind if you yell, but they fly away if you get too close too quickly.
I can’t remember if uncle came closer or just waited for me at home.
but I remember quite well how we enjoyed looking at the pictures I have taken.
I don’t know the reason, but he stopped at this picture.

He said “we should name it “Stella”…”.
I have no idea of why he said it. He wasn’t exactly the sweetest man on the earth.
It didn’t matter, I added the word Stella (Star) to that picture file name.
I knew, even if I didn’t know why, it was something I wanted to remember.
He would have died few months later and, trust me, I had no idea (on that day in April 2006) of what was going to happen in the following months.
That day, for a few hours
I have been sitting on dry rabbit excrement but I was happy.
Behind me: Catania and its gulf
In front of me: Mt. Etna
Family at my side
Butterflies one step away from me

one trusted me enough to rest for a while on my hand
a simple joy I have re-discovered only 7 years later in NYC

That was Home.

The size of the poster that the webmaster will hang to his bedroom wall in a few days (hopefully).
His only request was “Just things from Sicily”.
Attempt to overcome homesickness a little
What does it shows?
From upper left cornerMt Etna, a sunflower after a rain of July.
A rose of last May. Water of Pantalica. Java, you know her.
A detail of a Catania fountain, a blackbird, a sunset seen from Catania port. Soap bubble
Ponte dei Saraceni, a garofano,
webmaster’s favorite cat living close to my bro’s house, this cat has just one long tooth and an incredible acting ability, despite it’s clearly properly feed he always asks you for something.
And, of course, a picture of the shadow of his girlfriend taken during our trip to Pantalica.

Last step.
(for now)

From another point of view.
Not a super clean sky.
Always amazing
March 20, 2013

Dedicated to those people that yesterday (march 19th) with 20°C and a wonderful sun had the courage to say
“Spring is late this year, I’m tired of rain and cold”.
WHAT?!
Ok, the picture showing the lovely temperature of -7°C (yes, it’s a minus not a decorative symbol) is taken in NYC in January, but…
be serious!
Catania is not in Central Africa. 20°C,sun, and unstable weather other days is exactly how winter ends and spring time starts over here.
With so many things to complain about Catania and Sicily (some) people complain about weather unreal problems.
Why?
Sob!

March 15, 2013

Ok, NYC is not exactly the most colorful place in the world.
But guys, it was January and I guess I have to go in Africa o Central-South America to find a more colorful place than Sicily.
I am glad I saw that those who told me “it’s all grey” were wrong (just consider the sunset pictures I’ve taken, and not only).
I just wonder why those people said so since they live in grey-alike places.
Jealousy or what?
It doesn’t matter.
I’ll keep seeking Beauty and colors wherever I’ll go.
